Have questions?
What is a boilerplate?
It is the company description placed at the end of a press release, often titled “About”. It describes the company in a few lines and stays the same from one release to the next.
What should I put in a boilerplate?
The company name and what it does in one sentence, its target, one or two figures (founding year, team, customers, funding), its location and its website address.
How long should a boilerplate be?
Three to five lines, or roughly 50 to 100 words. Beyond that, it becomes a sales pitch that journalists will not reuse.
Should I update the boilerplate for every press release?
Review it with every release and update it as soon as a key figure changes (funding, headcount, number of customers). The core description should stay stable to keep a consistent image.
