What is La French Tech?
La French Tech is first and foremost a collective brand: it refers to French startups as a whole. It is also an administrative body, the Mission French Tech, responsible for deploying public policies aimed at startups. Its network includes 19 French Tech Capitals, 28 French Tech Communities in France, and 78 abroad (lafrenchtech.gouv.fr, October 2026).
What are the main programs?
- French Tech Next40/120 : launched in September 2019, it brings together the French scale-ups considered the most high-performing each year.
- French Tech 2030 : support dedicated to startups in strategic technologies.
- French Tech Visa : a simplified procedure that issues a 4-year renewable "Talent Passport" residence permit to foreign founders, employees, and investors. According to the Mission French Tech, more than 1,200 companies have recruited foreign employees through this scheme since 2017.
Why is the press interested in La French Tech?
Because its announcements are editorial milestones. Each new cohort of the French Tech Next40/120 is covered by the business and tech press. For a scale-up, being included is a news hook : a public, dated recognition that provides a reason to talk about the company right now.
The label remains a signal, not a story in itself. A journalist is interested in what the company does with it: hiring, international expansion, or new markets.
What does La French Tech mean outside of France?
Abroad, French Tech Communities bring together French entrepreneurs based in a city, from New York to Singapore. For a startup setting up operations, it is a valuable support network as part of a soft landing. However, an American journalist may not necessarily know the brand: in a press release in English, it should be explained in a single sentence rather than just mentioned on its own.
